May is one of my favourite months to spend on the moor, though to be honest, I could say that about every month…

This particular weekend it will be a full moon which is a very special experience seeing it rise over the hills on Dartmoor.

Also in May as the days grow warmer, a breathtaking sea of bluebells spreads across the ancient forest floor, their vibrant hues adding an extra touch of magic to the moss-draped woodland. Blackthorn trees bloom in soft white clouds, while cotton-grass bobs in the wind. Even the gnarled old Hawthorn trees burst briefly into delicate bloom, releasing a subtle almond-like scent, while the Rowan trees add to the seasonal transformation with a profusion of creamy white flowers, bringing brightness to the hills and valleys. The call of the cuckoo still echoes across the moor, and the foals and lambs remain as endearing as ever.

I would love to welcome you onto the moor this May for a wonderful meditative silent walk and wild camping adventure.
