2026-2-4 May
May is one of my favourite months to spend on the moor, though to be honest, I could say that about every month…
This particular weekend will be special as it begins on the day after the full moon, this means the large bright moon will rise at 10pm…a very special sight on the moor should we get a clear night.
Also in May as the days grow warmer, a breathtaking sea of bluebells spreads across the ancient forest floor, their vibrant hues adding an extra touch of magic to the moss-draped woodland. Blackthorn trees bloom in soft white clouds, while cotton-grass bobs in the wind. Even the gnarled old Hawthorn trees burst briefly into delicate bloom, releasing a subtle almond-like scent, while the Rowan trees add to the seasonal transformation with a profusion of creamy white flowers, bringing brightness to the hills and valleys. The call of the cuckoo still echoes across the moor, and the foals and lambs remain as endearing as ever.
This particular weekend will also be special as it falls the day after full moon, so we will have a wonderful bright moon to light the landscape in the night.
I would love to welcome you onto the moor this May for a wonderful silent walk and wild camping adventure.
